LAKE ARTHUR, La. (KPLC) - On Wednesday, Jan. 6, Jeff Davis Sheriff detectives were advised that Lake Arthur police had located a body in a private pond behind a residence located on Highway 14 just before 10:15 a.m.
According to Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey, Lake Arthur Police identified the body as Ravis Smith, 65, Lake Arthur.
According to Ivey, the body has since been transported to Lafayette for an autopsy. No injuries were observed by investigators when the body was removed from the pond, and the victim appeared to have drowned.
The investigation is ongoing, as detectives are awaiting the initial autopsy report.
