GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WAFB) - The LSU men’s basketball team was in Gainesville, Fla. for its first SEC road game to take on the Florida Gators and came up just short.
The Tigers (6-2, 1-1 SEC) fell 83-79 to the Gators (5-1, 2-0 SEC).
Cam Thomas led LSU in scoring with 28 points and had a team-high three steals. Trendon Watford added 21 points, eight rebounds (team-high), and three assists. Javonte Smart chipped in 20 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Colin Castleton led Florida with 21 points and six rebounds.
LSU was 25-of-61 (41%) from the field and 7-of-18 (38.9%) on 3-pointers. The Tigers were also 22-of-25 (88%) from the free throw line. Florida shot 50% from the field but just 24% on 3-pointers. The Gators had a slight edge on rebounds, 35-31. Both teams finished with nine assists and 13 turnovers.
LSU led by as many as five points early in the first half but Florida was able to rally late in the half and tied the game at 40-40. The Gators led by as many as 10 points in the second half.

LSU will return to the PMAC on Wednesday, Jan. 6, to host Georgia at 6 p.m. The game will air on SEC Network.
