LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Temperatures are remaining chilly this afternoon as highs are slowly warming into the lower 50′s. Sunshine has returned though to start the New Year off on a bright note and that looks to continue as we head into the weekend as well.

For the rest of the afternoon and evening we can expect sunshine to stick around and temperatures cooling quickly after sunset. If you are planning on being outdoors this evening make sure to have a jacket or coat around as we will fall back into the middle and upper 40′s through the evening. It will be a cold start to the day as we start off in the upper 30′s to lower 40′s for our Saturday morning. There will be a few clouds around to start Saturday as a system to our south slides by, but the chance of rain remains very low as it will be too far south. Afternoon highs will remain cooler as we only reach the lower and middle 50′s despite the ample sunshine we see for the second half of the day. Warmer weather is on the way as winds turn more easterly into Sunday and the start of next week.

For the second half of the weekend we see warmer weather returning as we look to reach the upper 50′s to near 60 as sunshine will be our weather story. High pressure remains in charge as it slowly works its way off to the east. Any outdoor plans for the weekend will be just fine as we won’t see any chance of rain thanks to high pressure remaining in charge. Into next week our highs do warm up a little more into Monday as we are back into the lower and middle 60′s. Sunshine sticks around as we head through Tuesday, but moisture will be making a return and that will eventually lead to more rain chances as we head into the middle of the week as our next front pushes in from the west.

Temperatures continue to warm into next week and remain above average

A cold front will be moving in late Wednesday, which looks to bring us the next chance of rain late Wednesday into the early morning hours of Thursday before we being to clear out for the second half of Thursday. As for our temperatures we will be flirting with 70 as we head into Wednesday before we slowly begin to cool down into Thursday and next weekend. A brief break in the rain happens into next weekend before another system looks to close in by early next week. Enjoy the nice weather we are seeing this weekend and I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!
