LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The American Job Center in Lake Charles is finally back in their original building after completing renovations and are once again taking appointments at their 2424 Third Street location.

The renovations to the Job Center include:

  • Expanding and moving their career services to the front of the building
  • Splitting meeting rooms in half so they can serve more people.
  • Adding officers for Job Center Partners to offer services.

Area coordinator Crystal Scott says she’s happy to be back.

“Super excited to be back home first of all. The location and the space better accommodates our staff. Everybody kind of has their own space, whereas before we were in a much smaller location. But at the end of the day I really feel like this renovated space will allow for more customers to be served thus helping us to better accomplish our mission which is put people to work. And we’ve definitely seen an uptick in jobs on our LA works dot net website.”

Scott says she believes their original location is easier for customers to get to because it is along a bus route.

However, there are still guidelines the Job Center is asking you to follow before you visit them.

“We are following social distancing and mask mandates, of course, so we ask that customers wear their masks and socially distance while they’re here in the center,” Says Scott. “But also, we ask that they call to schedule an appointment ahead of their visit to utilize the services whether it be using the phone to speak with a case manager, or to look for employment. Again, that’s simply because we are still kind of feeling our way through. We have limited computers...and we don’t want people to have to wait, you know if we can help it.
