LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - McNeese’s Monday night home opener against Bacone College has been suspended due to multiple players from Bacone testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Head coach Heath Schroyer said the Cowboys will hold a Blue-White scrimmage instead and encourages the fans to come out and get a look at the Pokes.

“It’s just one of those things,” said Schroyer. “It’s very unfortunate. Obviously we’re excited to be able to play at home. Our preseason has already been cut short, now it’s cut shorter. I’ve said it all along. We have to be very fluid this year and have to take it one day at a time.

“We’ll treat this as a trial run with the cheerleaders, band, Cowgirl Kickers… all that goes into creating a great atmosphere,” said Schroyer.

The Blue-White game will tip off at 6:30 at Burton Coliseum.

The Cowboys will now open up their home slate on Wednesday when they host Dallas Christian at 6:30.
