Two dead in crash on La. 27 south of Sulphur

SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) - Louisiana State Police Troop D troopers responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash in Sulphur, on Friday.

The accident occurred on top of the Choupique Bayou Bridge on LA-27 at 4:15 p.m. on May 8.

According to Trooper Derek Senegal with LSP, a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Corrina Anne Fontenot, 48, of Basile, was traveling north on LA-27 when a 2010 Buick Lacrosse crossed the center lane while travelling south on the highway. The reason why the Buick crossed the center lane is still under investigation.

Fontenot was pronounced dead at the scene. Although, Fontenot was properly restrained, she still sustained fatal injuries. Michael C. Vidrine, 38, of Eunice was a rear seat passenger in Fontenot’s vehicle. He was also killed, but was not restrained.

Another passenger in Fontenot’s vehicle, front seat passenger, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the Buick and its passenger were properly restrained and suffered minor to moderate injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital.

Toxicology samples from both drivers will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation
