NWS Storm Survey: EF-1 tornado damage confirmed in Vernon Parish

LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC) - The National Weather Service Storm Survey Team determined the damage in Vernon Parish on Sunday was from an EF-1 tornado in Leesville.
NWS said damage, which was mainly uprooted trees and trees that snapped, occurred on Hawthorne Rd. and areas along US-171 and La. 28.
Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft said “numerous homes” were also damaged in the Leesville area on Sunday. NWS said structural damage was mainly caused by trees falling on houses, cars and barns.
There were no injuries reported in this storm.
Craft said the Red Cross has made arrangements with the Days Inn in Leesville to accommodate anyone that can’t stay in their home.

Craft said the property damage was “substantial," with numerous power lines also knocked down. The affected area was on the northern edge of Leesville, along 171.
The sheriff said residents are working together to help each other out.
“It’s just lots of neighbors helping neighbors and families helping families,” Craft said.
