LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Two DeRidder women have been arrested in Wyoming after police found a U-Haul filled with dozens of animals in unsanitary conditions, authorities there say.

Christina Fant, 42, and Jennifer Stracener, 44, were arrested for felony animal cruelty.

Officials with the Rawlins Police Department say a U-Haul full of dogs that had been parked at the Rawlins Motel and U-Haul was reported to authorities on Feb. 15.

Twenty-eight dogs and three cats were rescued from the U-Haul and motel room, while several deceased dogs were found inside the U-Haul, officials said. The animals were found in “extremely unsanitary conditions with obvious signs of neglect.”
