DONALDSONVILLE, La. (WAFB) - Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office confirm they’re investigating a bizarre incident involving three school buses at Donaldsonville High School.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre says deputies responded to the school around 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 after three buses were damaged, with two of them hitting an exterior wall of the school.
No injuries were reported in the incident and the building sustained moderate damage to the outside.
As the investigation continued, APSO learned four juveniles had walked onto the school’s campus after hours and driven the school buses in the parking lot before hitting the building. The juveniles have been identified and charged, APSO says. Deputies were able to review surveillance footage in order to identify the juveniles. They are facing charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, felony criminal damage to property, three counts of simple burglary, and three counts of unauthorized use of a movable.
Ascension Public Schools released a statement about the incident Thursday evening. The statement reads:
“We are very thankful to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office for their thorough investigation. We are in the processes of assessing the damage and preparing to repair the buses and school property impacted during last night’s incident at Donaldsonville High School. We are confident this will not impact the start of school on Aug. 8 with minimal interruptions while repairs are made at DHS.”
The school system goes on to say if any of the juveniles involved are students enrolled in Ascension Parish schools, the system will conduct an internal investigation and respond according to its policies and procedures.
