LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A loaded gun was confiscated from a 15-year-old student who brought it with him to summer school at LaGrange today, officials confirm.
Holly Holland, spokesperson for the Calcasieu Parish School Board, said the situation was handled “very quickly” by school administration and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Kim Myers, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said the student took the gun out of his backpack in the presence of a student in the classroom, then returned it to his backpack.
One of the students in the classroom reported it to the School Resource Officer around 1 p.m.
The 15-year-old was arrested for illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal carrying of a firearm in a gun-free zone and aggravated assault. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
Sgts. Mike Miller and Seth Abshire are the lead investigators.
