VPSO: Two arrested and charged with simple battery after fatal shooting
VERNON PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Two people have been arrested on the charge of simple battery as a result of a fatal shooting, according to a Facebook post by the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The post said that Amanda Matz, 38, and William “Willie” Matz, 38, both of Leesville were involved in a fatal shooting at the Spot Lounge on Billy Goat Hill on Dec. 3, 2018.
The shooting took the life of Mark Fernandez, 54, of Leesville.
Detectives believe Amanda Matz, Willie Matz, and Mark Fernandez were the primary aggressors in an altercation with Brandon Lemmons, 39, of DeRidder.
VPSO Detectives obtained surveillance video of the incident from the lounge. Detectives observed a physical altercation take place in the parking lot of the bar.
During the course of the investigation, detectives say they learned Brandon Lemmons was a former member of a “local motorcycle gang," ousted some months prior to this incident.
Investigators say during the altercation, Amanda Matz struck the first physical blow against Brandon Lemmons. At that time Mark Fernandez and Willie Matz each physically attacked Lemmons and a scuffle ensued leading to Fernandez suffering a fatal gunshot wound.
Arrangements have been made for Brandon Lemmons to return to the State of Louisiana at which time he will be arrested on a charge of being in possession of a firearm at a place of business which serves alcoholic beverages.
Willie and Amanda Matz are each charged with one count of Simple Battery with bond set at $1281.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
