Employee accused of stealing $17,000 from church

VINTON, LA (KPLC) - A Vinton woman is accused of stealing approximately $17,000 from a local church at which she worked.

Stacey M. Brooks, 34, issued fraudulent checks to herself and used a church debit card without authorization, Capt. Scott Spell, with the Vinton Police Department, said in a news release.

Spell said Vinton police began investigating on Feb. 11 after receiving a complaint from the church.

Brooks was arrested on Friday, Feb. 22, on counts of theft between $5,000 and $25,000, bank fraud and monetary instrument abuse. Judge Guy Bradberry set bond at $75,000.

Det. Justin Sittig is the lead investigator.
