CONWAY, AR (KPLC) - McNeese women’s basketball suffered a 76-45 Southland Conference road loss at the hands of Central Arkansas Wednesday night in a game that saw the Cowgirls struggle from the field despite getting good looks at the basket.
McNeese (6-18, 4-9 SLC) only had one player score in double figures and that was Bre’Ashlee Jones who ended the game with her second double double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cowgirls’ top two scorers, Callie Maddox and Regan Bolton combined to score a total of six points. Maddox was 1 of 6 from the field and Bolton was 1 of 9 from the field including 0-3 from three-point range.
As a team, McNeese shot 30.9 percent from the field (17 for 55), were 2 of 12 from three-point range, and were 9 of 20 from the free throw line.
On the other hand, UCA (11-12, 6-7) shot 48 percent from the field, 54.5 from three-point land (6 for 11) and 78.6 percent (22 for 28) from the free throw line.
UCA’s Kamry Orr led all players with a game high 24 points and Maddie Goodner added 13. McNeese did outrebound UCA 39-35. Damilola Balogun was credited with seven rebounds and Divine Tanks ended the night with seven.
McNeese held the lead for a short amount of time in the first period but once UCA took the lead they never gave it up and led 39-24 at the half after being held to nine points in the second quarter.
UCA came out in the second half and continued to build on its lead and held a 55-36 lead after the third quarter. McNeese struggled to score again in the fourth quarter, getting outscored 21-9 in the period.
McNeese will return home Saturday to host New Orleans in a 1 p.m. contest. Senior post player Cinthya Rivas and manager Grant Fontenot will be honored prior to the game.
