LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Westlake man was arrested after whipping a girl with a belt, leaving “numerous red marks on her arms and legs,” authorities said.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, after receiving a complaint at a residence in Westlake, according to Kim Myers, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
The 12-year-old girl told deputies that her mother’s boyfriend, Tayler C. Ashworth, 23, whipped her with a belt numerous times that morning, Myers said. Deputies saw “numerous red marks on her arms and legs.”
Ashworth confirmed to deputies he whipped the girl with a belt because she did not want to go to school, Myers said.
Ashworth was arrested on one count of cruelty to a juvenile. He was released Wednesday on $2,500 bond, set by Judge Clayton Davis.
Deputy Barrett Savoie was the arresting deputy and Det. Monte Gentry is the lead investigator.
