GRANT, LA (KPLC) - “I’m very blessed to have gotten this job," Kyle Jinks said. "I fell into a good situation and I got to know a lot of people in the community.”
Fairview basketball coach Kyle Jinks has become synonymous with Lady Panther basketball. For the last two decades Jinks has roamed the court, molding a generation in Grant. Success has followed as Jinks won nine state championships, including a record eight-straight from 2006-2014.
“I’ve been fortunate to have great talent and at the same time I’ve had some really good parents to back me up and that’s why we’ve been pretty successful around here,” said Jinks.
And with every title, the wins piled up— 800 to be exact.
Friday’s victory over Hornbeck gave Jinks that milestone for his career, making him the fastest coach to do so in Louisiana, in just 22 seasons.
“It’s probably more special for my wife. I set goals for myself like anybody else does but I do that so I work harder for my team to be successful," Jinks added. “I am pretty proud of that accomplishment.”
“It’s an honor to be a part of his 800th win," said Fairview point guard Rylee Jinks. "It just goes to show how good of a coach he is to be able to be the fastest coach to win 800 games and it’s just an honor to be a part of it.”
Jinks has spent his entire coaching career with Fairview, one that began back in 1997. Despite the wealth of success, Jinks said he’s far from finished.
“I said I wanted to win ten state championships, I have nine so I’m getting close," Jinks said. "I also want to win 1,000 games and I set that for myself. When you set goals for yourself then you work even harder to get those goals but I have kids that are going to work harder because I’m working harder.”
