NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Dome-field advantage, oh how sweet it is. We know it’s loud, and can be scary to opposing teams. But the people who fill it on Poydras, make it a one-of-a-kind place.
Tight end Ben Watson has suited up for four teams in the league, including to tours of duty with the Saints. He’s seen it all in the NFL, and the Who-Dat Nation top his list of fans.
“It’s special because New Orleans is special. I would say New Orleans is a very unique place in a lot of ways. When it comes to fans, I’ve never been at a place where after a game, you fly in and people are there at the airport,” said a smiling Ben Watson.
“I’ve played in four different cities...haven’t seen it. Maybe it happens in a place I haven’t seen, but I doubt it. It just speaks to the type of football fan, but also to the type of people that they have here. The way the team is considered an extension of the community, and there’s a family feel that you don’t have in a lot of other places. Now, they will boo you and they will cheer you, but there is a family feel that you don’t have in a lot of other places. I think that’s what makes the Dome special is that you have an atmosphere where people aren’t just fans of the team. They feel like the team is an extension of them, and I think that as players we feel that.”
