SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Shreveport Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one of their own officers dead Wednesday night.
Authorities responded a shooting call just before 8:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Midway Avenue in Shreveport’s Caddo Heights neighborhood.
According to the Shreveport Police Officer Association, the victim is a female officer that was described as “young, beautiful, and dedicated to serving the Citizens of Shreveport” in a Facebook post early Thursday morning.
The officer was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with life-threatening injuries and later died.
According to Shreveport Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Marcus Hines, the officer was preparing to go on her shift and was not engaged on scene when the incident happened.
Shreveport’s newly elected mayor, Adrian Perkins, and Shreveport Police Chief, Ben Raymond, also met with the officer on the scene before she passed.
“Once again, Shreveport wakes up this morning all too aware of the sacrifices police officers make,” said Mayor Perkins in a statement on Thursday. “Let us not forget tomorrow. If you see a police officer, strike up a conversation with them.”
Police are questioning someone who they say was in the home when they arrived on scene; however, no one has been arrested.
