DEQUINCY, LA (KPLC) - A doctor is accused of calling in a fake report of a shooting threat to a health facility.

DeQuincy authorities say law enforcement responded as though it were an active-shooter situation, only to have the doctor tell them it was a joke.

Dr. Eric Jacobs faces one count of terrorizing. Judge Guy Bradberry set bond at $100,000.

Captain Tom Threet said the DeQuincy Police Department received a call from the facility on Jan. 7 that someone had called the facility, saying he was outside the door to shoot them.

DeQuincy police officers and deputies with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office cleared the facility and began searching for the shooter, but learned after a few minutes that the call was a hoax, Threet said.

Witnesses told authorities that Dr. Jacobs had made the call. After several minutes on the phone, Jacobs confirmed that he had made the call to the hospital and that it was a joke.

Witnesses believed the threat was real.

Jacobs was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center on Jan. 8. He is listed as a family medicine practitioner on the DeQuincy Memorial Hospital website.
