Student accused of having gun in backpack at Iowa High arrested

IOWA, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish School Board says a student was found in possession of a gun at Iowa High School today, according to a post on the CPSB Facebook page.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office announced this afternoon that the student has been arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correction Center on one count of illegal carrying of a weapon in a firearm-free zone.

School Board spokesperson Holly Holland said another student saw the gun in the backpack and contacted administration.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kim Myers said deputies dispatched to Iowa High School searched the student’s backpack and found a loaded gun inside. At no time did the student remove the gun from the backpack.
