LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - On multiple occasions over the last month, a mysterious man wearing waders has walked into the Hokus Pokus liquor store on Country Club Road, put expensive bottles of liquor in his pants and simply walked out.
“I mean we’ve had small thefts here and there,” says Ross Antony, the store’s general manager. “But nothing like this. We’re probably looking at three to four cases of hundred-dollar bottles of Hennessy.”
Antony says the total amount stolen at this point is at least $2,500 worth of product. He says after three of these burglaries in just one month, improvements to security are being implemented immediately.
“We have added a new, higher-quality security system,” says Antony. “We’re going to have to be more vigilant, protect our product. Those specific products that are being targeted, they are under lock and key now.”
The suspect (or suspects) shoves at least two to three bottles at a time inside their waders or pants. Not only is Antony affected by this personally, but he also says he’s just amazed that they were able to pull it off in the first place.
“Yeah, very bizarre. Not easy to fit multiple half gallons of Hennessy in your pants,” says Antony. “It was under my watch so that’ll come out of my pocket. That’s why I take it so personal.”
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says the investigation is currently ongoing. For now, Antony says he has faith CPSO will catch the person or persons responsible.
