Accidental firearm discharge at Hackberry High, no injuries

HACKBERRY, LA (KPLC) - A resource officer’s firearm accidentally discharged striking a wall at Hackberry High School, according to Sheriff Ron Johnson with the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The shot went off in the officer’s office at the front of the school on October 9 around 9:30 a.m, says Johnson. The bullet went into the wall which faced the exterior of the school and did not exit the wall.

Johnson says no one was injured. The officer was by himself in the office.

Cameron Parish Superintendent Charley Lemons issued a statement:

The officer then reported himself to the assistant principal who also heard the shot, Johnson says. After an investigation, Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shot was accidental. The officer has been placed on suspension and will be re-assigned.
