CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital receives award for building a foundation for a Culture of Excellence

CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital has received a prestigious award from CHRISTUS Health for excellence in service quality.  The annual CHRISTUS Touchstone Awards recognizes the best of the best throughout the CHRISTUS Health System. St. Patrick Hospital was awarded the 2008 Service Quality Touchstone for Building a Foundation for a Culture of Excellence. Chairman of the Board of Directors for St. Patrick Hospital, Dr. Daryl Burckel accepted the award at a special ceremony at the hospital on January 23, 2009.

Hospital Administrator, Bernard Leger says that this award is a reflection of the hospital's dedication to enhancing the care of their patients and increasing the satisfaction of their associates.

"At St. Patrick Hospital, our physicians and associates are committed to providing the community with the highest quality healthcare.  By putting the patients first, we are able to listen and be responsive to their needs.   We are encouraged to know that we're changing lives as we continue on our journey to excellence," Leger says.

The name "Touchstone" comes from a dark stone used to test the purity of gold and has become synonymous with a standard by which quality or value may be tested.  This is the fourth Touchstone that St. Patrick has received since the award process began in 2001.

Associates at St. Patrick Hospital were awarded based on their work to increase patient and associate satisfaction over the last two years.  This year, St. Patrick has achieved patient satisfaction in the top 10 percent in the national database.

St. Patrick Hospital's Center for Joint Replacement was also nominated as a finalist for Service Quality.  Other finalists were Improving the Quality of Life for Congestive Heart Failure Patients in the area of Clinical Quality, and Clinical Documentation Improvement Program in the area of Business Literacy.
