Police Arrest Woman Accused of Robbing 80 Year Old Woman

Lake Charles Police say good surveillance cameras and a quick response from the public led to the arrested of a woman accused of robbing an 80-year-old woman in the Memorial Hospital parking garage. The suspect, 26 year old Bernita Marie Vital is booked in the Calcasieu Parish Jail for armed robbery and armed robbery of a fire arm.

Police say on Saturday, the victim was in the parking garage elevator, when she was approached by the attacker. When the elevator doors closed, police claim Vital pulled out a handgun, and demanded money from the victim. Then Vital allegdly attacked the elderly woman, knocking her to the ground and breaking her hip.

Memorial Hospital Senior Vice President Tim Coffey says their investment in video surveillance cameras was well worth the cost.

Meanwhile, Chief Don Dixon says the Vital have numerous children,and that child Protective Services has been called in to assist. Cops are also looking for Vital's boyfriend, Mackie Roberson who's wanted on two counts of attempted murder.

Bernita Marie Vital's bond is set for 200 thousand dollars.
