Gwindola Cecile Lacour Miller 3-30-08

Gwindola Cecile Lacour Miller, ageless, died on March 30, 2008 Divine Mercy Sunday, at Christus St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles.  She was a native of Welsh and a longtime resident of both Jennings and Lake Charles.  She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. She was a gifted athlete and played golf and tennis for many years.  Mrs. Miller also loved to play bridge and was the last surviving member of a bridge club that played weekly for over 30 years. Gwin and Johnny, her husband of nearly 65 years, were accomplished dancers, both ballroom dancing and swing. Their signature smoothness and synchronized dance style amazed and delighted their family and friends for many years. Mrs. Miller coordinated the Eucharistic ministry to the Resthaven Nursing Home and for many years conducted a communion service for the residents every Friday.  She was co-owner and manager of both Zack Lacour's Men's Store and Kim's Lounge in Jennings.  She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles and most recently was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. L. "Johnny" Miller; her mother and father, Zachary and Hortense Lacour; and one daughter, Charlotte Miller Higginbotham. Mrs. Miller is survived by four children, her son, Artie Miller and his wife Sharla; her daughter, Gwin Miller Cronin; her son, Zachary Miller and his wife Nancy; and another son, the Reverend Whitney Miller.  Other survivors include 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation at Johnson Funeral Home will be from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 1 with a Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.  Her funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, D.D. will be the celebrant with priests of the Diocese of Lake Charles as concelebrants. Graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery in Jennings, LA at 12:30 P.M. The family of Mrs. Miller would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff, priests and religious of St. Patrick's Hospital, the priests and religious of the Diocese of Lake Charles, the hospice care of Christus Home Care, and to the countless friends whose many acts of kindness have both humbled and amazed. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Hayden, Kendall Miller, Robert Thomas, Kevin Miller, Fred Gary, Matthew Cronin, and Ethan Miller.  Honorary pallbearers are Johnna Jo Higginbotham, Tammy Stelly, and Ann Ihli. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Miller's memory to St. Louis Catholic High School's Our Lady of Life Memorial Courtyard Project, which is the completion of Phase III of the school's "Opening Windows" Capital Campaign. Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at
