Basil “Jack” Haley

80, of Lake Charles died Friday, February 01, 2008 in his residence.   

 Mr. Haley was born, raised and educated in Provencal, LA and has lived the past 60 years in Lake Charles.  He served the United States Army during World War II.  He worked as a lineman for 20 years with Gulf States Utilities and retired after 20 years with Local IBEW.  He enjoyed yard work and vegetable gardening.  Mr. Haley will be most remembered for helping others as he was a foster parent to 11 children and prided himself in "helping the old people".  He was a member of VFW Post 2130.   

 He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 55 years, Lola "Pat" Donham Haley of Lake Charles;  three sons, Gary Wayne Haley of Lake Charles, Virgil Haley and wife Carmen of Southern Pines, NC and Terry Haley of Houston, TX; two daughters, Deborah Betsill of Lake Charles and Vivian Brandt of Carlisle, PA; seven grandchildren, Jason Haley, Leslie Crabb, Joey Betsill, Rhonda Betsill, Brian Betsill, Haley Betsill and Chelsey Haley; four great- grandchildren, Sean Haley, Drethen Crabb, Patrick Crabb and Mia Betsill; one sister, Melba Free of Natchitoches, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by parents, four brothers and three sisters.   

 Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Reverend Tommy Haley will officiate.  Burial will be in Creel Cemetery in Bel, LA.  Visitation Monday will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM and will continue Tuesday at 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.    Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net .
