81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, died peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Lyles was born February 25, 1926, to Claude and Flora Lyles in Madison, Illinois. He fell in love and married the joy of his life, his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Helen Louise.
They lived in southern Illinois until relocating to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1952. In 1965, he moved his family to Lake Charles and always called it home.
Dad's greatest joy was his family and his "sweet little doggie" Maggie. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Helen, and five children, Alan and Debbie Lyles, Robert and Effie Lyles, Iris and Moe Fontenot, and Laura Lyles, all of Lake Charles and Craig and Diane Lyles of Clarksville, AR; eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren and a special friend to whom the family wishes to thank, Lisa Self of Iowa, LA.
Mr. Lyles is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War Conflict. He proudly served his country from 1944-1946 and 1949-1951 in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged and continued his service as a civilian through the VFW and American Legion Post #1 of Lake Charles. His 51 years of professional work experience include Laclede Steel Company, F. Miller and Sons, Concrete Pipe, Boeing Petroleum, and owner of Lyles Construction Company.
He was an avid golfer and long time member of the Pine Shadows Men's Golf Association. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Alan Trouille will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday will be from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM and will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
