Jace Peterson, a standout at Hamilton Christian High School this past season, has become the 21st football recruit for McNeese State.
Head coach Matt Viator announced the signing of the multi-sport standout who earned all-state honors in football, baseball and basketball.
"We are very excited to add Jace to our 2008 signing class," Viator said. "He is a great athlete who will play both football and baseball. I look forward to working with Jace and Coach Burrows (Cowboy baseball coach Terry) to give Jace an opportunity to excel at both sports here at McNeese."
The 6-1, 195 poundPeterson twice earned all-state honors as a defensive back for Hamilton Christian and that's the position he is expected to play at McNeese. He also handled the quarterback position during his prep career and was an all-district performer at that post.
He was named the Southwest Louisiana defensive player of the year for his class for the second time in 2007 after being credited with 76 solo tackles, 23 assists, two forced fumbles, two pass break ups and eight interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
Peterson was also named to the Southwest Louisiana offensive team at the athlete position after having rushed for 1,461 yards and passed for 956.
He led his team to the regional round of the state playoffs.
