From the State Police Department:
On December 19, 2007, a Louisiana State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 east bound, near mile post 30.
After the Trooper conducted the traffic stop, he became suspicious of criminal activity due to the behavior of the driver and passenger of the vehicle. The Trooper conducted a field interview with both suspects. Both of the suspects gave different stories about the nature of there trip as well and to there origin and destinations. An NCIC check revealed both subjects had an extensive criminal history which included numerous illegal narcotics charges.
The Trooper asked for voluntary consent to search the vehicle. The driver refused to consent to a search of his vehicle. Lake Charles Police canine was dispatched to the scene to assist. The drug sniffing dog alerted on the vehicle, and the vehicle was searched.
A plastic bag containing three individual plastic bags was located under the front seat. The bags were each found to contain suspected Cocaine. A NIK field test was conducted. The test was positive for Cocaine.
Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to Troop D for further investigation by West District Narcotics. After the subjects were interviewed, they were booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
