The difference between Odyssey HealthCare Hospice and Home Health

The hospice goal of care is to provide comfort through pain and symptom management.  Home health focuses on curative and rehabilitative measures.

Odyssey HealthCare Hospice takes a holistic approach in caring for the patient and the family with emphasis on quality of life.  Hospice patients are not required to be homebound, but encouraged to stay active, doing as much as they feel able and for as long as possible.

Our visit frequency increases with time as the patient declines, whereas home health visit frequency decreases as the patient improves.

The Medicare/Medicaid Hospice Benefit and most private insurance provides for visits from a registered nurse, social worker, chaplain, nurse aide and volunteers.  Oxygen, equipment, medications for pain and symptom management of the terminal illness, and other services are also available 24-hours a day / 7 days a week.

Our goal is to keep a patient comfortable and at home with family and friends, until their journey ends.
