Chili Sauce Recall

July 19, 2007

Reported by KPLC Staff

Federal health officials are warning consumers to throw out certain cans of hot dog chili sauce after four people were hospitalized with botulism.

The Food and Drug Administration says the warning applies to ten-ounce cans of Castleberry's, Austex and Kroger brands of hot dog chili sauce with "best by" dates from April 30, 2009, through May 22, 2009.

An F-D-A official says the toxin is so potent that if it gets on people's hands or face, it can make them ill.
