June 14, 2007

On Thursday at 2:15 a.m. Louisiana State Police-Troop D investigated a fatality crash involving one vehicle on US 90 milepost 13.5, near its intersection with Fabacher Road in Calcasieu Parish.

The crash occurred when the driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling west on US 90.  For unknown reasons, the driver crossed the center line and ran off of the roadway on the left (south) side.  The driver overcorrected when attempting to travel back onto the road and lost control while traveling towards the right (north) side of the roadway.  The vehicle proceeded onto the right (north) ditch and crashed into a tree.

The driver, 18 year old Jayson Hardin of Vinton, received fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Hardin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  Impairment is unknown and standard toxicology tests are pending.

This is the 24th fatality victim involved in crashes this year and 65% of the deaths were unrestrained.
