On Thursday at 2:15 a.m. Louisiana State Police-Troop D investigated a fatality crash involving one vehicle on US 90 milepost 13.5, near its intersection with Fabacher Road in Calcasieu Parish.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling west on US 90. For unknown reasons, the driver crossed the center line and ran off of the roadway on the left (south) side. The driver overcorrected when attempting to travel back onto the road and lost control while traveling towards the right (north) side of the roadway. The vehicle proceeded onto the right (north) ditch and crashed into a tree.
The driver, 18 year old Jayson Hardin of Vinton, received fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hardin was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown and standard toxicology tests are pending.
This is the 24th fatality victim involved in crashes this year and 65% of the deaths were unrestrained.

It's not unusual to hear complaints about the U.S. Postal Service in our area. The latest comes from a neighborhood off Nelson Road where residents say they no longer get daily delivery. "Whether snow, sleet or rain or whatever it should be delivered," said Terry Bellard, who lives at Smith Village mobile home community. The Army Corps of Engineers plans to issue the necessary permits for the Bayou Bridge pipeline, according to a news release from the office of Congressman Clay Higgins. The news release said Colonel Michael Clancy, of the Army Corps of Engineers, announced Thursday that the New Orleans District has concluded its environmental assessment and will issue necessary permits to Bayou Bridge Pipeline, LLC. The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office has formed an investigative team for cold case homicides in the parish, with its first focus being on a 1980 murder. The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in their investigation of the unsolved homicide of Mary Darlene Howard, 15, whose body was found in a wooded area on West Boundary Road in the Sandy Hill area in Leesville on April 27, 1980, said VPSO Detective Rhonda Jordan.More >>
