Mary Edna Leger Landry

Mary Edna Leger Landry, 77, born June 30, 1929 died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 12:15 a.m. in her home surrounded by her family and caretakers.

She was born in Morse, LA and was a native of Crowley. She lived in Iowa for 54 years. Mrs. Landry was a retired city clerk for the town of Iowa. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she never met a stranger. She had fond memories of camping with family and friends. Her hobbies were cooking, quilting, crocheting and gardening. She was a past member of St. Raphael Catholic Daughters and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were always the leading focus of her life. Even though God has called her home, memories of her kind heart, loving soul and gentle ways will forever remain close to the heart of her family. She was the tender hand that linked them all together. Mamaw Mary devoted her entire being to the needs of her family and was an inspiration of a truly dedicated mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Elias "Pi" Landry; her parents Guilliam and Amelia Leger and nine siblings, two brothers and seven sisters. Survivors are her loving children, two daughters and two sons along with their spouses, Yvette and Arnie Natali; Pam and Tony Stelly; Ray and Debbie Landry; "Lil Red" Keith and Vickie Landry, all from Iowa and one sister Gene Lavergne of Gueydan; her ten grandchildren, Tiffany and husband Daniel "Bingo" Fontenot, Kristle and husband, Heath Fruge, Jevon and wife Jamie Natali, Shane Landry; Erika and husband Eric Sonnier; Summer Landry; Ryan Stelly; Travis Stelly; Trent Landry; and Quince Landry. Also, nine great grandchildren, Brady, Kade and Jace Fontenot, Savanna, Kayleigh and Maggy Fruge, Dayton and Ava Sonnier and Jaden Landry. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane Landry, Jevon Natali, Ryan Stelly, Travis Stelly, Trent Landry and Quince Landry.

Her funeral service will be at 12 Noon Thursday from St. John Catholic Church in Lacassine. Father Marcus Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The family would like to thank her care givers; Martha Simmons and Marlene Thibodeaux, along with all of her caregivers for the past 11 years, also Dr. Gerry Hebert, Angie and Southern Health Care Hospice and Staff.
