Gunman Identified in the Campus Shooting

April 17 2007   Teacher says gunman's writings were disturbing

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The student identified as the Virginia Tech gunman is described as an English major whose professors found his writing so disturbing, they referred him to the school's counseling service.

The chairwoman of the English department says the creative-writing teacher described Cho Seung-Hui (joh sung-wee) as "troubled" and that "there was some concern about him." She says the teacher didn't know if Cho was being creative in his writings or describing real things. And there's more.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the senior left a note in his dorm room with a rambling list of grievances. In the note, he reportedly railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus. Reports also say he may have been taking medication for depression, and that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic.

Rain chances increase MondayRain chances increase Monday

By tonight, rain chances will be low. We will start with partly cloudy skies, becoming mostly clear late. Low temperatures will be in the low 70s. A few places north of I-10 will be in the 60s. It will still feel muggy overnight, thanks to the humidity. There could be some areas of patchy fog in the early morning hours on Monday. As we go through next week, the big story remains warm temperatures.
