Republican State Senator Walter Boasso officially announced he's running for governor.

As a senator, Boasso represents southeast Louisiana parishes including St. Bernard and Plaquemines. Both were hard hit by Katrina. Boasso has been a critic of the recovery effort.

And more candidates are expected to make a run at the governor's mansion.

Other possible candidates mentioned include Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell, a Democrat from north Louisiana; U.S. Representative Charlie Melancon, a Democrat from southeastern Louisiana; and Jim Bernhard, a former state Democratic party chairman and chief executive officer of the Shaw Group.
