Date: October 31, 2001
Reported by: The Associated Press

It's life in prison for the Lake Charles native convicted of slaying a Petroleum Executive in Webster Parish, back in 1998. A Lafayette jury returned that life sentence on twenty-two year old Ronald Benson.

Benson was convicted of first degree murder for killing Ronald Shaw. Shaw was shot during a robbery of cash and jewelry from a safe in his home. Shaw's pregnant wife witnessed the shooting.

Two other Lake Charles men still face trial in Shaw's death.
