Lake Charles robberies on a downward trend

Lake Charles police say robberies rates are on a decline

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - With one of the most recent armed robbery happening at Circle K on Monday, August 6, 2018,
it seems as though robberies are on an upswing. However, according to Lake Charles chief
of police Don Dixon, the number of robberies so far this year is down.

"Well actually so far this year we have had 90 robberies, this time last year we had 103,
so it's down about 13 percent."

Though robberies and crime are almost impossible to predict and prepare for,
Dixon says he is proud of the success rate he sees in the department.

"The most important thing is we clear these robberies, we make arrests, and we had a 93 percent solution rate.
so, it seems like this year, just about every robbery we've had, we've solved and to me that's very important."

Dixon says the success of the department is a testament to the community and law enforcement
wanting to see Lake Charles in a better light.

"Fortunately, we have a community that wants to help... They care about the community and they don't want crime."
