SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - A road rage incident that led to a stabbing on I-10 began between Sulphur and Vinton, authorities said.

The three cars initially interacted on I-10 eastbound, near the portion of the roadway that turns from two lanes into three lanes, said Det. Jeremy Cain, with the Sulphur Police Department. Two of the cars were occupied by family members who were traveling together.

The cars pulled over around 10 miles down the road, near the Cities Service exit in Sulphur, where a physical fight ensued and the stabbing/slashing took place, Cain said. The person who was stabbed was transported to a Lafayette hospital.

Based on a description of the driver wearing blue jeans, work boots, and a welder's cap, Sulphur police began searching for a vehicle that matched the description, with an Alabama license plate, in the parking lots of area plants.

Cain said police narrowed the search to four or five vehicles, then to one.

State police went into the plant to get the vehicle's owner, Cleve Orso, 47.

Cain said Orso admitted to being in a physical altercation. The investigation into the altercation is ongoing.

Orso was booked on one count of second-degree aggravated battery.

Cain said he expects others to be charged.
