LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The driver of the vehicle involved in the two-vehicle wreck on the intersection of Prien Lake Road and Ernest Street could have caused the accident due to a seizure, according to Lt. Kevin Kirkum with Lake Charles Police.
According to LCPD's investigation, around 4:18 p.m. on July 24, two vehicles were traveling on Ernest Street with one heading north and the other heading south, says Kirkum. Both vehicles were preparing to turn onto Prien Lake Road.
Kirkum says, the driver traveling south potentially had a seizure and passed out causing the driver to fail to make the right turn. The vehicle continued straight through the intersection and struck the northbound vehicle.
After striking the other vehicle, the unconscious driver struck the curb and a pole which caused the vehicle to flip over and strike another vehicle parked on Ernest Street, Kirkum says.
The driver was taken to the hospital. No citations were issued.
Officer Joshua Simien handled the investigation.
