Downtown Grounds Coffee Shop hit-and-run suspect arrested

DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) - The suspect who ran into the patio at Downtown Grounds Coffee Shop and left the scene in DeRidder has been arrested, according to Deputy Chief Christopher Rudy with the DeRidder Police Department.

The owner of the shop received an alert from the security system that a yellow Ford F150 struck the front patio on July 18 around 8:30 p.m., says Rudy. Afterward, the driver, James I. Martin, 60, of Rosepine, headed north on U.S. 171.

Rudy says on July 19, DeRidder officers received information that the pickup truck stopped at a local restaurant. An employee reported the vehicle to police.

With the assistance of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, officers located Martin at his residence along with the truck, Rudy says. The truck had damage consistent with the surveillance video.

Martin was charged with one count of hit-and-run driving. He is booked into Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office jail.
