Movie 'Jacob's Brother' to be filmed in Lake Charles area

Southwest Louisiana will soon be the backdrop of a feature-length film.

Valleyheart, a Los Angeles-based production team featuring Lake Charles natives Brian Bourque, Timothy Rafferty, Jacob Rafferty, and Tyler Walker, will produce the film. It's called  “Jacob’s Brother,” and it tells the true story of the bond between local brothers, one of whom is an aspiring comedian struggling with mental illness.

“Mental illness is an invisible disease,” said Timothy Rafferty, the film’s producer and inspiration for the film’s main character. “Chances are you know someone affected by it, in some form or another. Our story is a fictionalized version of my experiences, but people will find a lot of truth in it.”
“Jacob’s Brother,” which will be funded through a combination of private investors and an online crowdfunding campaign, will begin filming in Louisiana in January 2019, and will feature local actors and settings. A casting call for actors and extras will be held in fall 2018, and local business owners interested in spotlighting their sites are encouraged to contact the production company.

“Our story is about a comedian with Bipolar Disorder, and Lake Charles is kind of a bipolar cityboth urban and rural, industrial and creative,” said Bourque, writer and director. “That, along with the abundance of talent, makes our hometown the perfect setting for this story.”

Both Bourque and Timothy Rafferty now live in Los Angeles but will return to the Lake Area July 25 through Aug. 3 to scout filming locations and to engage local partners. Follow “Jacob’s Brother” on Facebook and Instagram for updates on their upcoming trip and what’s to come.
