CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The Kevin Daigle first-degree murder trial has been assigned to a new judge.
Daigle is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent.
Judge Clayton Davis has been randomly chosen to oversee the case.
Judge Guy Bradberry had been presiding over the case but was recused by the state Supreme Court. The court says the record shows Bradberry had a longtime working relationship with Vincent's widow, a court employee who will be a witness in the penalty phase of the trial. The court also said that while there has been no allegation or showing that Judge Bradberry harbors any actual bias, the circumstances require recusal as a constitutional safeguard against the risk of bias.
