CROSS COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 elementary school is one of five finalists for a national award.

Cross County Elementary Technology Academy will receive $10,000 for being named a finalist for the 2018 TAP Founder's Award.

It's the Teacher's Advancement Program that the elementary school has been a part of for eight years, and Principal Mindy Searcy said this is a recognition for years of hard work.

“The only reason we're being even considered for this award is because we implemented this with fidelity,” Searcy said. “And we've gone in it with everything we have and TAP comes first.”

Searcy and a group of teachers will go to Washington, D.C. over spring break to find out if they're the winner.

If the elementary school wins, they'll receive $50,000. Some of which, Searcy said, will go to new curriculum programs for the school.
