BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

PowerMark Properties is asking for the public's help in raising funds to provide bags for foster care children in Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson County. The company partnered with the non-profit organization Together We Rise for a fundraising opportunity to raise money for the bags.

PowerMark says they were not able to reach their goal at an event held at Edgewater Mall on March 10 and still needs the public's help.

"We have 15 days left to reach our goal of $5,000, and right now we are just under $2,000," said a realtor with PowerMark.

The company wants to donate 100 bags with the funds.

"Right now when these kids are pulled from their home and put into foster care, they are only allowed to take items with them as long as they fit into 1 garbage bag. This is truly heartbreaking. Honestly, who would want to see a child going from home to home with all of their belongings in a garbage bag," asked the realtor.

The bags include: a box of crayons, a coloring book, a hygiene kit, a teddy bear, and a blanket.

A representative from PowerMark said the company chose to partner with Together We Rise because, "we wanted something that was largely recognized for their efforts, and something where the funds would stay here in our community.
