Friday kicks off the busiest weekend of Mardi Gras season. Parades will roll every night between now and Mardi Gras Day.

The greasing of the poles tradition started as a necessity to keep people from climbing up the poles of the Royal Sonesta Hotel.

This year's theme was "Cheers to 300 Years" with special guest Bryan Batt from Mad Men.

Guest judges also included none other than Fox 8's own Rob Krieger and Ryan Naquin.

Festivities included appearances by Carnival royalty from the Krewe of Zulu and Krewe of NOMTOC, plus other special guests. Leroy Jones and the Original Hurricane Brass Band entertained the revelers with performances of Mardi Gras classics during the show, while New Orleans' original all-female marching group The Pussyfooters delivered one of its signature special routines.

Master Chef runner up and owner of Compere Lapin Nina Compton won the People's choice vote.
