NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Wednesday night's Pelicans home game against the Indiana Pacers has been postponed due to a leak in the roof of the Smoothie King Center. The Pelicans tweeted out the update after a lengthy delay.

The game was slated to tip-off at 7:09 p.m., but officials delayed the game after noticing the leak. Rainy weather has been moving across most of the area, Wednesday evening into Wednesday night. The Pelicans tweeted out around 8:44 p.m. that the game has been postponed.

During the delay, officials with SMG, the company that manages the Smoothie King Center provided an update. "Well we have a small leak that wasn’t noticed until about 6:30 so some of the pregame activities had already started. This popped up on the west end of the building and we’re trying to tend to it right now," said SMG General Manager Allen Freeman, speaking to FOX Sports New Orleans' Jenn Hale.

A team spokesman sent the following via email:

The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tonight between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Indiana Pacers has been postponed by the NBA due to a leak in the roof at the Smoothie King Center.

The date of the rescheduled game will be announced at a later date.

The Pelicans released the following statement:

“The New Orleans Pelicans announced that tonight’s game against the Indiana Pacers has been postponed by the NBA due to a leak in the roof at the Smoothie King Center. SMG officials worked diligently to address the matter, but the NBA determined to postpone the game out of an abundance of caution for players’ safety.

Tickets for tonight’s game will be honored when the game is rescheduled later this season. Parking will also be free of charge at the rescheduled date. Fans can also call (504) 525-4667 for more details. Information on refunds and exchanges will be made available tomorrow.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience and support of the New Orleans Pelicans.”

Through this afternoon expect continued pop-up showers thanks to southerly flow providing ample moisture. Hot and humid conditions will persist across Southwest Louisiana for those of us not seeing a cooling shower.  Overnight warm and humid conditions persist with lows only dropping into the upper 70s. But, with ample moisture present we will feel like the 80s for much of the night.
