SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) - The word "doggo" may end up becoming part of the English language.

Social media platforms are loaded with photos of "doggos," that's internet lingo for dogs.

According to the website knowyourmeme.com, "Doggo is an internet slang term for a dog, which is often associated with the word 'pupper' in various ironic meme communities online."

If you Google the term you can find photogenic dogs with great expressions on their face, sometimes waiting for "smackos" or "borking".

None the less doggo is a non-word that has become so popular the dictionary experts at Merriam-Webster have taken notice.

The editors are calling "doggo" a "word we're watching" in the new year.
