KNOXVILLE, TN (RNN) – An embryo frozen for 24 years is now a 6 lb. 8 oz. baby girl named Emma.

Emma Wren was born to Benjamin and Tina Gibson on Nov. 25. She is now the record-holder for longest-frozen embryo to come to birth, according to the research staff at the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library.

Emma was frozen on Oct. 14, 1992 and thawed by National Embryo Donation Center in Knoxville, TN, according to a news release from the organization.

Tina became pregnant through a frozen embryo transfer (FET) on March 15. Tina, who is 26, is now the mother of a baby who was conceived about 18 months after her own birth.

"Emma is such a sweet miracle," proud papa Benjamin said. "I think she looks pretty perfect to have been frozen all those years ago."

The faith-based NEDC has seen 700 pregnancies though its embryo-adoption program, more than any other organization or clinic.

Embryos have been donated from all 50 states and couples have traveled to Knoxville from all over the U.S. as well as some foreign countries for their embryo transfers.
