Thanksgiving closures, trash schedule

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) -

The following is a list of Thanksgiving closures in Southwest Louisiana:

  • City of Lake Charles offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. The residential garbage/trash collection schedule will be pushed back one day.
  • All recycling stations, including the Team Green recycling truck, the Nelson Ball Field location, and the Wood Waste Facility (Incinerator) will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23. They will resume regular operations on Friday, Nov. 24.
  • Waste Management and Progressive Waste Solutions will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23.  All services for commercial and residential customers will be delayed one day - Thursday pickup will be on Friday and Friday's will be on Saturday.
  • Both Solid Waste Convenience Centers will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. Centers will reopen Saturday, Nov. 25.
  • All City of Sulphur offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. The residential garbage/trash collection schedule will be pushed back one day.
  • All Calcasieu Parish Police Jury departments will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. Offices will reopen Monday, Nov. 27.
  • All Calcasieu Parish Public Library branches will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. Normal branch hours will resume on Saturday, Nov. 25. Materials may be dropped off in the book drop boxes located at each branch.
  • All Cameron Parish offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. The residential garbage/trash collection schedule will be pushed back one day. All normal trash collection schedules will resume Monday, Nov. 27.
  • Chennault International Airport offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov 24.

    Lake Charles residents will get a chance to get rid of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Lake Charles Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration will hold a drug take back event on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your pills for disposal to the Lake Charles Civic Center at 900 Lakeshore Dr.  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions as...

    The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is hosting an AARP Smart Driver Safety Program. The program takes places on Thursday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the CPSO John Scott Building at 5400 E. Broad St.  Drivers attending will receive a certificate of completion that can be used to receive discounts on insurance. Also, coffee will be served.     Louisiana's senators have agreed to allow the state's riverboat casinos to move on land. The Senate voted 22-14 Tuesday for the proposal by Sen. Ronnie Johns, a Lake Charles Republican. The measure would allow Louisiana's 15 riverboat casinos to conduct gambling activities within 1,200 feet on land from where the riverboat is berthed and remove the requirement the riverboats have an operable paddlewheel. It also would redefine the limits on gambling space.
