SAN MARCOS (KXXV) -

All Greek chapters on Texas State University's campus have been suspended in the wake of a death that happened Sunday.

San Marcos police told KVUE the 20-year-old student's death will likely result in criminal charges based on preliminary review of the evidence in the case.

Texas State President Denise M. Trauth released a statement Tuesday afternoon suspending all fraternity and sorority activities on campus.

San Marcos Police Department found Matthew Ellis, a student and Phi Kappa Psi pledge, unresponsive Monday morning at an apartment off campus. EMS personnel were not able to revive him and he was pronounced dead. Trauth said that Ellis had attended an off-campus social event Sunday, hosted by members of a Texas State fraternity.

I have asked Dr. Joanne Smith, Vice President for Student Affairs, who has responsibility for the Greek Affairs system, to immediately initate this review and propose recommendations for reinstating fraternity and sorority chapters that demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Texas State and the ideals established by their respective national organizations.
