NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a homicide in Marigny.

NOPD arrested Crystal Baumann in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Troy Cooks.

The shooting happened on November 11 in the 1900 block of North Rampart Street.

At around 12:31 p.m., Louisiana State Police responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Cooks suffering from a single gunshot wound to the face.

He was transported to University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

After further investigation, detectives learned that Baumann and the victim had allegedly become involved in an argument.

During the argument, Baumann reportedly produced a gun and shot the victim once in the face, according to police.

Baumann was taken into custody and taken to the Eighth District station where she declined to make a statement to detectives.

NOPD said she was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery by shooting in the incident.

Upon Cooks’ death, the aggravated battery charge against Baumann was amended to a charge of second degree murder.

Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
